Hello Truecels.net
Note: This guide doesn't guarantee full untraceability but greatly improves your anonymity.
In today's article, we will be discussing various practices to make your XMR/Monero
harder to trace.FYI: I didn't explain each topic clearly and technically, as this is supposed to be a lightweight guide, made for beginners. Feel free to research everything below.
1. NEVER reuse the same monero address. This is pretty self-explanatory, its never a good opsec practice to reuse one address, so don't be lazy and generate a new one each time.
2. NEVER use clearnet nodes! Using clearnet nodes is essentially just handing your data to law enforcement. Try to run your own nodes, and incase you can't altleast use a TOR node. A great website to view monero nodes is monero.fail.
As I said, clearnet nodes may be a honeypot and will leak your IP, even if they're listed on monero.fail.
3. NEVER make transactions when the monero network is being spammed. If the number of transactions jumps from ~25k-30k txs to 100k+ its likely a a Black Marble Attack. This makes it easier to de-anonymize addresses. A website to check the number of transactions is: bitinfocharts.
4. When buying XMR (with another cryptocurrency) Don't split the transactions multiple times. If you can, buy all at once and don't split at all. When you split, you're creating multiple TXOs associated with yourself which makes tracing much easier and cheaper.
5. After buying Monero with a different cryptocurrency, always CHUM your XMR. Chumming is the process where funds are being transferred between accounts in the same wallet. This abuses monero's ring signature privacy and enhances your privacy and obfuscates your transactions. More information can be learned here, including how to chum your monero: antichainalysis/xmr-churner. I personally CHUM my coins everytime I buy XMR with a different coin, and I also CHUM them each month to maintain privacy.
6. NEVER use XMR as cash. Avoid tipping, websites like Monezon or other reckless behaviours associated with cash use. If used as cash Monero ends up deanonymizing all its own transactions. So it’s key to discourage others as well from using it as cash. For example, anyone accepting tips in Monero is creating hundreds of TXOs associated to themselves.
