In addition to my travel horror story, there are other ways to see if you've been flagged. One idea: go to any gunstore and begin a purchase. You can cancel during any applicable waiting period.
If nothing comes up, you likely don't have a flag. However, if the gun store *does* say there's a flag, (and, I can't stress this enough, you haven't broken the law), then being inquiring with the FBI or ATF about the nature of this flag.
If you were flagged without due cause, threaten a lawsuit. Demand an answer. That would hold these agencies accountable.
I want to state that I'm not encouraging harassment of such agencies. Or of purposely wasting their time. This is only one way to see if you've been flagged, and what to do if you have been without justification.
